The 54th Annual Grammy Awards

By: Mary Fran BontempoI’ll admit it: Watching the Grammy Awards makes me feel old.About a million years ago, I knew most of the performers being recognized for their work in music. Their names were recognizable, the songs, sing-able.Now, not so much. With foul-mouthed “artists” (Isn’t it interesting that world-class singers like Frank Sinatra were simply called “crooners” while invective slinging rappers like Eminem are called “artists”? But I digress….) like Nicki Minaj, and songs [...]

Losing Control with the Golden Globes

By: Mary Fran Bontempo“Let’s get ready to Ruummbbllee!” Even if you’ve never witnessed a boxing match, announcer Michael Buffer’s rallying cry has become a familiar refrain, used to launch not only boxing matches but video games, music videos, even special events like weddings. As far as I know, though, it’s never been used as the introduction to the Golden Globes. But it could be.The Golden Globe awards, telecast live this Sunday, January 15th from [...]

State of Play

Reviewed by Carmen Ferreiro-EstebanState of Play is the best show I have seen on television this year. Originally aired in 2003 in Great Britain, it spawned a movie of the same title in 2009, that must have been pretty forgettable because I remember seeing it and nothing else about it.The BBC produced six-part series on the other hand calls for compulsive watching.Directed by David Yatesand written by Paul Abbott, State of Play follows [...]

You Watch Your TV Show Where?

By Carmen Ferreiro-EstebanIn the good old times when we were young, TV shows only came in black and white at certain unmovable times and if you wanted to watch them you must fit your schedule to theirs. That changed in the 1980s when videos came out. With them it was possible to record a TV show in a video cassette and watch it on your own time. You had to remember to put a [...]

Once Upon a Time

Sundays at 8/7c on ABCIf you have been waiting for the perfect show to fall in love with this season, wait no more and click here http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/once-upon-a-time/episode-guide, to watch--if you have not done so already--Once Upon a Time first three episodes.Like my second new favorite show, Revenge (https://www.notreadyforgrannypanties.com/2011/10/revenge-at-hamptons.html), Once Upon a Time is about, you guessed it, revenge. But, while Revenge is an adaptation of Alexander Dumas’s The Count of Montecristo, Once Upon [...]

Revenge at the Hamptons

Review by Carmen Ferreiro-EstebanI went to the Hamptons this week. Twice. The first time was on Tuesday, for a week-end gateway to celebrate Sarah Michelle Gellar's birthday in Ringer (https://www.notreadyforgrannypanties.com/2011/09/lying-game-ringer.html). The celebration included a private party on the beach with a table for four catered by the best restaurateur in NYC. The food was delicious, Sarah Michelle Gellar's character told us, but we didn't see much of it because the show kept sending us back memory [...]

New Girl, Starring Zooey Deschanel

By: Mary Fran BontempoI came back to renew my membership as a Gleek and ended up, like many of the high schoolers in the show, with a crush on the new girl.New Girl, the new comedy starring Zooey Deschanel as a single version of her quirky, adorable self, debuted Tuesday night on Fox, directly following Glee, which, sadly, failed to inspire. It seems as though Glee, only three seasons old, has simply lost [...]
